Odds makers currently have the Vikings listed as 3-point favorites versus the Bears, while the game’s total is sitting at 41.

The Bears defeated St. Louis 27-3 as a 7.5-point favorite last week. The combined score fell UNDER the posted over/under total (44). Matt Forte rushed for 132 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 20 carries for Chicago and Kyle Orton passed for 139 yards with a touchdown in the win.

The Vikings defeated Jacksonville 30-12 as a 2.5-point underdog last week. The combined score went OVER the posted over/under total (41). Adrian Peterson rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries for Minnesota, while Gus Frerotte threw for 120 yards with an interception in the win.

This is one of my tough sports picks for Sunday, but I think the Minnesota Vikings will prevail.

Team records:
Chicago: 6-5 SU, 5-5-1 ATS
Minnesota: 6-5 SU, 4-7 ATS

The Positions on an NFL Team

Filed under: Sports — admin @ 9:37 pm
NFL LOGO

NFL LOGO

To begin, each team has 11 players on the field at a time. The team with possession of the ball is on Offense, and the opposing team trying to stop the team with the ball is on Defense.

The Offense consists of the following positions: (I have also indicated the jersey number for each position, as the NFL has rules as to what numbers each position must wear)

Quarterback 1 – 19 – He’s the guy that handles the ball on every play; the “leader” on Offense. He runs the show, so to speak. An NFL Quarterback must be able to pass the ball with great accuracy and throw for great distance. Above all, he must be able to make decisions in a hurry and must be able to adjust on the fly. Ideally, an NFL Quarterback is tall enough (say 6’3″ – 6’4″ tall) to see over opposing players in order to pass the ball, and quick enough to get away from their pass rush.

Running Backs 20 – 49 – As the name implies, a Running Back generally runs with the ball. He also catches passes from the Quarterback, and must be able to block opposing players. Running Backs line up behind the Quarterback.

Linemen 50 – 79 – They consist of a Center, a Left Guard, Right Guard, Left Tackle and Right Tackle. Linemen line up along the line of scrimmage (where the ball is at the start of the play); they are the biggest players on Offense; NFL Linemen usually weigh in at around 300 lbs or more. A Lineman’s job is to block opposing players, keeping them away from their Quarterback and making “holes” (room) for their Running Backs to run.

Wide Receivers 10 – 19 or 80 – 89 – Wide Receivers line up on either side of the line of scrimmage, away from the Linemen. They run down the field in order to catch passes from the Quarterback. Some Wide Receivers are known as “speed receivers”(able to get down the field in a hurry), and some are considered “possession receivers” (not as fast as speed receivers but better at catching the ball).

Tight End 40 – 49 or 80 – 89 – Kind of a cross between a Lineman and Wide Receiver; not as big as a Lineman, but bigger than a Wide Receiver. The Tight End lines up next to the Linemen and is responsible for both blocking and catching passes. Although he generally doesn’t catch as many passes as a Wide Receiver, look for the Quarterback to possibly throw the ball to the Tight End if the Offense has the ball close to its opponent’s goal line.

Switching sides of the ball to the Defense:

Linemen 60 – 79 or 90 – 99 – They line up opposite the Offensive Linemen along the line of scrimmage. They are the biggest guys on Defense, and their job is to get to the Quarterback and stop the Running Back. They also are responsible for “tying up” (occupying opposing players) so that their teammates have a shot at getting to the ball carrier (player with the ball). A Defense usually has either three or four Linemen along the line of scrimmage.

Linebackers 50 – 59 or 90 – 99 – Linebackers are usually the best tacklers on Defense. They line up behind the Linemen and are a unique combination of both power and speed. Besides stopping Running Backs, they are also responsible for covering Wide Receivers on pass plays. A Defense will generally line up either three or four Linebackers.

Cornerbacks 20 – 49 – Depending on the way the Defense is set up, they line up either directly across the Wide Receivers or a little farther down the field. Cornerbacks are responsible for covering the Wide Receivers on pass plays, thus they must be just as fast. Although generally not the best tacklers on the team, they are also responsible for stopping Running Backs on running plays.

Safeties 20 – 49 – Line up farther back on the field, thus are the last line of Defense. There is a Free Safety and a Strong Safety. The Free Safety is usually the faster of the two and better at covering receivers on pass plays; the Strong Safety is generally the better tackler, and he lines up on the same side of the field opposite the Tight End on Offense.

I hoped this described the game of football enough so that you can make the right sports picks for your NFL teams.

Online Sports Picks

Filed under: Sports — admin @ 11:37 am

Online sports picks are one of the greatest things ever.

Sports Logo

Sports Logo

Log onto your favorite sportsbook site, place a bet, and win. During that time you can go to dinner with your wife/husband, go to the beach, movie, etc… and win thousands of dollars while you were away. It is all thanks to online sports picks. There is no guaranteed sports picks, but there are some great sport handicappers out there that can pick a sports pick and win 82% of the time or better.

When you bet online sports what is the method that you use? Do you read up on a team and try to develop inside secrets before the game starts? There are many factors you need to consider when betting on sports. The first thing you must realize is you are in the right place. Betting on sports is one of the best things ever for many reasons. The first reason is you have AT LEAST a 50/50 shot of winning any game! When you gamble, there are not many things you can gamble on with that kind of a percentage. That is a 50/50 shot with no knowledge on the game and just blind picking. Imagine if you have found one of the best sports handicapper out there. This handicapper should get you correct picks 62% of the time or better. Now you have a 62/100 percent chance AT LEAST of winning every single game. I have personally seen some handicappers go 29/30 or 30/31 for the month and have only lost one game in an entire month. These type of professionals are out there, they are just hard to find.

Some of these professional sports pickers will charge upwards of 100 dollars on a single pick and try to rip you off. It is incredible that some people are actually paying OVER 100 dollars on a single pick. If they lose the bet even, the handicapper offers no type of refund at all. All you might get is a sorry, and that they will try harder next time. This is absolutely unacceptable and you should not stand for this. You need to drop this type of handicapper right away and find one that is honest, loyal, has a winning % over 62, and only charges a 1 time fee per month for sports picks. This type of handicapper is hard to find, but with some research and determination it is quite possible.

Its nearly baseball season and baseball handicapping will be in full force. Winning sports picks are the greatest feeling in the world if you’re winning large amounts of money, and fun to! Betting on sports is such an adrenaline rush and it turns one of the dullest and boring games into the World Series, Super Bowl, or Championship game. Betting on professional sports can turn your average Joe into multi-millionaires quick depending on how much you’re willing to risk on each game. If you are not a professional handicapper, I highly suggest you find one that suites your needs, follow all their picks, and make a killing profit.

NHL Quarter Mark Power Rankings 2008-09

Filed under: Sports — admin @ 8:26 pm

Another season of surprises or do the rich get richer and the poor get poorer?

NHL LOGO

NHL LOGO

It takes two or three seasons for NHL teams to turn it around and this year it seems like the same old same old with a few exceptions. Now that we are at the quarter season mark, it’s time to re-evaluate those sport picks as things take shape. Here we go – hang on for some surprises.

1. Pittsburgh – Malkin and Crosby are playing like …… Malkin and Crosby. Satan is really only a minus 2? Marc Andre Fleury is the most underrated goalie in the NHL. They are for real.
2. Detroit – They make you sick don’t they? Hossa and Datsuk lead the way and Zetterburg is just warming up. Osgood does not look like last season and goals against are not Red Wing – like. Powerplay is keeping them in business.
3. Washington – Yes they are good even without the temporary absence of Ovechkin, the best and most entertaining player in the NHL. Alexander Semin is an emerging top 10 player. Jose Theodore could do them in – he is very shaky.
4. Anaheim – Big Ducks are finding their form. Their goal against is terrible. Giggy is waking up though and the road record is impressive. Ryan Getzlaf is a great team leader and Selanne looks like he could play until Social Security.
5. Chicago – I still like these guys to go far. Patrick Kane is no fluke. Khabibulin has a good save percentage and the team is getting hotter all the time.
6. San Jose – I know, I know – how the heck does an undefeated at home team fit in at number 6. Especially a team with a goals for and against like them. Well I say Patrick Marleau, Devin Setoguchi, Ryane Clowe, and Evgeni Nabokov are all early flukes. They are barely .500 on the road. We will see.
7. Montreal – What a disappointment so far. Can’t blame Price this year. Tanguay lead them in scoring? Where is the vaunted power play?
8. Boston – I am not a Bruins fan but they have to be the most improved team in the NHL so far. They actually work hard and are consistent. A nice power play and Tim Thomas is playing like Cheevers.
9. NY Rangers – if not for Henrik Lundqvist they would be average. Nothing spectacular anywhere. Then again, maybe I just don’t like the hockey version of the Yankees.
10. Buffalo – Here’s thinking the Yo Yo Sabres will eventually play a little more consistant. Thomas Vanek has been intense and effective. Ryan Miller has been good, then bad, then good. Why they put up with Kotalik and lazy players like him is beyond me. They are deep and should make some trades.
11. Minnesota – Ok, Niklas Backstrom is awesome. It would be hard for anyone to fall asleep at a hockey game but the Wild could “trap” you into it. They remind me of baseballs “Boring Orioles”. Get some zip, will ya?
12. Vancouver – Could be the hardest working team in hockey. FIVE shutouts for Luongo? Are you kidding me? If the Rangers played this hard they would be undefeated. No stars other than Roberto, just teamwork.
13. Calgary – Iginla and Kiprusoff can’t do it alone. I still like them to go very far though. Need to play better on the road.
14. St. Louis – Here’s a ringer for ya’. Below .500 with and average goaltender. Their leading scorer (Andy McDonald) is a minus 12, so why so high? They are fun to watch. They fight and scrap. Go see the Blues. They might lose but they will not be intimidated.
15. Toronto – Oh my! Two average teams in a row rated higher than the standing show. Why the Leafs? They play hard, have a good power play, and you gotta love Stajan and Toskala. No more “slow Leafs slow”.
16. Nashville – Here’s hoping Shea Weber passes JP Dumont as the team’s leading scorer. A defenseman leading a team in scoring, how cool. Dan Ellis is underrated too. If they would just change the name if the team to the Nashville Cats and put a guitar on the jersey I would love them.
17. Columbus – Broussard looks like the real thing and Nash is healthy. Goaltending is decent but they are not deep and play like a bunch of stick artists. Would be runner ups to the Portland Pirates of the American League.
18. New Jersey – How important is a goalie to a team built for defense? Just watch. They simply don’t have it. Pathetic powerplay. Big Lou might even make some trades this year. They have a good core.
19. Phoenix – Bryzgalov, Doan, and Jokinen want a powerplay for Christmas. They could eventually be vastly improved but need to get some scoring touch.
20. Carolina – Cam Ward lifts this pathetic bunch to number 20. What’s funny is that on some nights they actually look decent. Maybe a coaching change? I couldn’t find and Hurricanes in the leading scorers – not even close.
21. Philadelphia – Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of guys. They have more cracks than the Liberty Bell. Last couple of years they were getting so cocky too. Marty Biron should sue for non-support.
22. Ottawa – Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of guys. Sorry I just can’t stand Murray. Come on, Heatly, Alfreddson, Spezza – Don Cherry may turn loose on all of them soon. Who needs a goalie when you can surround about six talented guys with cheap shots?
23. Colorado – Wish they would trade Stastny – I really like him. Cool uniforms and Budaj – that’s about it.
24. Edmonton – Can’t score, can’t play good defense, and lousy goaltending. Talk about bad moves. They went way backwards this year.
25. Atlanta – Brian Little and Kozlov are the only bright spots on injury riddled “Bird Team” They also play a little chippy and can’t really back it up.
26. Los Angeles – Goaltending is very good. Young Stars are good. There are not enough of them . Big market mishap here.
27. Dallas – Don’t blame Marty Turco for the NHL’s biggest team disappointment. They can’t seem to do anything consistently.
28. Florida – Another team much like LA. Good goaltending and not much more – Sure trade Jokinen – go ahead – make my day.
29. Tampa Bay – I rated them last because they are the laziest team in hockey. Lot’s of talent. Just lazy. Can’t blame goaltender Mike Smith for horrible power play. Some nights they wake up and then go to sleep for another week. It was not Barry Melrose – It’s the team leadership.
30. NY Islanders – Doug Weight is their leading scorer. DOUG WEIGHT!

The Dallas Mavericks Strive to Win an NBA Finals Their Way

Filed under: Sports — admin @ 12:26 pm

No Dallas Mavericks fan will ever forget 2006, when the Mavs reached their first NBA finals.

NBA LOGO

NBA LOGO

While it was certainly a year for the records, that year was the third in which the Mavs had reached the Conference Finals. In fact, they interestingly ended their regular seasons twice as Division Champions, during two other seasons. Since the 1980-1981 season, the Mavericks have been making NBA history in sports picks.

How did the Mavericks become the “Mavericks”? A “name the team” contest included 4,600 entries, resulting in three finalists. The losing finalist names included the Express and the Wranglers. Essentially, a maverick is a person who is unconventional and independent.

Prior to the 1980-1981 season, Donald Carter spent $12 million to buy an NBA expansion team, which became the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks focused on landing young players, but the plan backfired when the #1 pick, Kiki Vandeweghe, refused to sign with the Mavericks. Instead, the Mavs traded him to the Denver Nuggets.

The Mavericks won their franchise opening game 103-92, defeating the San Antonio Spurs. Ironically, the Spurs had been the Dallas Chaparrals in the American Basketball Association (ABA). By the end of the season, the Mavs had earned a less-than-impressive 15-67 record. However, the good news was that there was much room for improvement.

The Mavericks continued to improve, and then won their first Division Title during the 1986-1987 season. In fact, they earned an outstanding record of 55-27. They also had the fewest turnovers in the NBA, for the fifth consecutive year! However, the Seattle Supersonics eliminated the Mavs in the first round of the playoffs.

During the following year, the Dallas Mavericks continued to achieve excellence. They finished the season with a 53-29 record, and second place in the Midwest Division. The Mavericks then disposed of the Houston Rockets and the Denver Nuggets. However, afterwards they lost a heartbreaking series in the Western Conference Finals, falling to the Los Angeles Lakers in seven games.

Nearly two decades later, the Dallas Mavericks returned to prominence in the NBA. They ended the season with an outstanding 60-22 record, though finished three games behind the San Antonio Spurs. The NBA awarded the Mavs’ Avery Johnson with its “Coach of the Year” award. After easily defeating the Memphis Grizzlies, the Mavs faced their nemesis, the Spurs. The Mavericks took a 3-1 series lead, but had to beat the Spurs in Game 7 (and in overtime). The Mavs had less success against Dwyane Wade and the Heat, losing the NBA Finals series, 4-2.

In the following year, the Dallas Mavericks played an incredible regular season, earning a 67-15 record. In the first round of the playoffs, the Mavs faced the Golden State Warriors, who had defeated them three times during the regular season. The Mavericks constantly played catch-up during the series, but eventually lost it 4-2.

Since joining the NBA, the Dallas Mavericks have experienced seasons with ups and down. Cheer on the Mavs with Dallas Mavericks merchandise, as they strive to reach the NBA Finals again, experiencing a different result.
